New jazz degree program. (Items of Interest). The University of Connecticut The University of Connecticut is the State of Connecticut's land-grant university. It was founded in 1881 and serves more than 27,000 students on its six campuses, including more than 9,000 graduate students in multiple programs.UConn's main campus is in Storrs, Connecticut. (UConn) School of Fine Arts Puerto Rico's School of Fine Arts is a college-level institution of higher learning, located in Old San Juan which offers studies in graphic arts and other humane studies.Dr. has launched a bachelor's degree program with an emphasis in jazz studies. UConn's program will be highly selective and smaller than comparable programs at other area universities, says Earl MacDonald, director of jazz studies. Admission to the program will be by audition. "This program should help us attract the finest young players in the region," MacDonald says. "Offering this degree is an important step in our plan to make UConn the premier destination in New England New England,name applied to the region comprising six states of the NE United States—Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. "Because larger schools admit many jazz majors on each instrument, students have no guarantee that they'll perform in the top ensembles and be coached by top instructors," says MacDonald.
